HOUR 13

I've been gone for a few hours now, completely and utterly engrossed in A Game of Thrones. What a book, so far my favorite point of views are Daenerys' and Eddard's. Eddard's especially when he's interacting with Robert, because you can really feel the depth of their friendship, especially with the way they occasionally joke around. Also, just want to point out that in Jon's first POV chapter, he sees kings everywhere, mentioning that Jaime looked as a king should, and a bit later, when a shadow is caste behind Tyrion Lannister, he said the shadow made him look like a king (something like that). Jon's POV chapters are also among my favorites.

Mid-Event Survey
1. What are you reading right now?

A Game of Thrones

2. How many books have you read so far?

Two: The Axion Esti, but then I put it down in favor of A Game of Thrones.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

I've been thinking about switching to Clockword Angel by Cassandra Clare. Or maybe A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Housseini. But I also really want to finish aGoT.... >..>

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?

Not really, just had to turn down a couple of outings from my mom.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

Chris has been on Skype with me for a few hours now as I read, and it inspired him to start reading the pile of comics he'd been accumulating for a while.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

I really love the music videos/songs that are posted almost every hour. They actually get me pumped up. I think that's what surprises me a little bit about the read-a-thon: other people assume that reading is 100% of the time solitary, quiet, boring and uneventful, but this read-a-thon is a prime example of how reading can bring people together and get you hyped up. Being hyped up is also a double edged sword at times; you're so hyped to read as many books as possible, or to just sit and read for 24 hours that it takes a bit away from the stories and from immersing yourself. This is rare though, and my not apply to everyone but I know that it has crossed my mind occasionally.

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

No, I don't think so. It's well organized. But I think of something later on, I will let you guys know :)

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again
next year?

Definitely be in my room with my laptop and books one hour before the read-a-thon begins. I feel like a lost a big portion of the first hour or two just getting ready and trying to understand how cheering worked (it was my first time, I was nervous, didn't know what to write.) Also, just sitting there and relaxing would've probably helped ease me into the reading zone as opposed to running in from an errand, rushed and flushed at the first hour.

9. Are you getting tired yet?

I was falling asleep as I read through a chapter, so I got up and came to blog for a bit. I feel more alert now. Getting up, stretching and just taking a break really does refresh you and banishes the tiredness. For a bit though. I bet I'll feel very tired soon (it's 2:44 AM on my side of the world).

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?

Tips tips tips! Okay. Hm, all I can say is don't be afraid to read anything. Children's books, books you've already read, fanfiction, poetry. It doesn't have to be full length, printed novels. Sometimes you just need to feel like "yes! I finished a book!" even if it was a short one. And I really believe there's always something to be learned from re-reading a book. You come at it from a new perspective almost every time, and this pick up on something new.
As for cheering. I think this is more advice directed at me but DON'T BE AFRAID OF WRITING ON PEOPLE'S BLOGS/WALLS. You don't have to original so don't worry, just a nice, sweet message is thoughtful. lol And you can be funny if you want.

HAPPY READINGS!!!!

Hour 9!

I think that one of the most prevailing feelings I get around this time of the readathon is something along the lines of:

"I REALLY REALLY DON'T WANT IT TO END! NOOO! I MUST READ MORE!"

The end is coming

And I cannot stop

*whispers* nooooooooooo

READ ON!

HOUR 7!!!

I'm going to make a hot cocoa and a sandwich so I can be swiftly carried into the next 17 hours to come.

Accidentally started cheering again.

No

I must return to my book

A Game of Thrones NEEDS ME!

Entering hour 5...

After knocking out for 2 and a half hours!!! Oh no! It was an accident. But now I feel refreshes, sort of... as refreshed as one can feel after an abrupt nap, which means my head is pounding a bit, my throat feels dry, and I'm mildly confused.
Refreshed in the sense that I don't feel tired anymore! Yay. So onward! I've switched books.
